KidLit Editing Services

Editing services for children's fiction: picture books, board books, early readers, MG and YA

Here at Darling Axe Editing, we've always worked with authors of children's fiction, but we've decided to formalize these services for clarity.

Whether you are working on a picture book, early reader, or middle-grade novel, our team of kidlit specialists is here to help. These services are designed for each project, so please get in touch so we can get the conversation started. Here are a few options:

  • Picture Book Critique—work with one of our editors to refine your core narrative and bring your story to conceptual life. For a single picture book text of up to 700 words, the cost will be approximately $225 USD.

  • Picture Book Project—work with an editor on three picture books at once for approximately $350 USD.

  • Early Reader in Development—a developmental edit includes a close look at your narrative structure, characters, voice, scene-based writing, and more. The end result is a detailed feedback report to help inform your next revision. The cost is $0.04/word USD.

  • Early Reader Polish—once your manuscript is structurally sound, we will bring on a line editor to help you polish the prose. The cost is $0.03/word USD.

  • Middle Grade & Young Adult Projects—please get in touch for a quote. Our rates for MG/YA developmental and line editing range from $0.02 to $0.03/word USD.
